Sugar Bags: Food-Safe, Moisture-Resistant Packaging for Granulated Sugar
2026-11-07 10:50:00

Glossy BOPP laminated woven sugar bag with custom printed branding

Sugar is sensitive to moisture, dust and contamination — and its Packaging must meet strict food safety expectations. Zhejiang Saiqiang Plastic Co., Ltd. manufactures sugar bags that keep granulated sugar clean, dry and free-flowing from the refinery to the consumer.

Food-safe by design

Our PP sugar bags are produced from clean, food-contact-suitable materials with options for BOPP lamination and inner PE liners, creating a barrier against moisture and foreign particles. Breathable woven options are also available for processes that require air exchange during cooling.

Sizes for every market

As a sugar bag supplier, we supply custom sugar bags from 25kg sugar bags and a 50kg sugar sack for industrial users to smaller retail sugar Packaging bags with easy-open features. Custom dimensions, fabric weight and sewing styles match your filling line and market.

Branding that sells

Sugar packaging is highly visible in stores, making printed sugar bags a powerful branding tool. We offer full-color custom printing for your logo, origin, net weight, nutritional information and certification marks.

Choosing the right barrier for granulated sugar

Granulated sugar is not a hazardous cargo, but it is hygroscopic: it pulls moisture out of the air, cakes into lumps and loses the free-flowing behaviour that packers and retailers depend on. That is why the barrier layer, not the print, should drive the specification. A plain woven sack breathes and suits short inland cycles. A food grade woven bag laminated with 15 to 35 micron BOPP film adds a smooth, low-permeability face that keeps humidity out and still carries high-definition artwork — the same glossy laminated construction we build from 1 to 50 kg fills. Where the bag will sit in a humid warehouse or cross an ocean in a container, we add a PE inner liner inside the same shell, so the sugar never touches the printed surface and the sack still runs on your existing filling line.

How fabric weight and format follow the fill weight

Fabric weight runs from 50 to 120 gsm and should be matched to the load rather than to the cheapest quote. Retail packs in the 1 to 5 kg range usually run a lighter fabric with a folded block bottom so the bag stands up on shelf. Bulk 25 kg and 50 kg food safe packaging bags need heavier tapes and a reinforced back seam, and are normally filled on an automatic weigher. Every batch is drop tested from 1.2 metres, which is the check that catches a seam that looked acceptable on the sewing floor but opens on a pallet.

Common mistakes when ordering sugar sacks

The costliest error is choosing the fabric by price per bag instead of by fill weight and route: a sack that survives the filling line can still fail after two weeks in a damp container. The second is artwork that ignores the print process — fine reverse type and photographic gradients need rotogravure, and a ten-colour job cannot be matched by two-colour surface print. The third is treating the liner as an afterthought, because liner gauge, insertion method and the way the bag is closed all decide whether the barrier is still intact when the sack reaches the buyer.

Frequently asked questions

What fabric weight should a 50 kg sugar sack use?

For a 50 kg fill we normally start at the heavier end of our 50 to 120 gsm range and add a reinforced back seam, because the seam rather than the fabric is usually the first point of failure. The exact weight depends on your filling speed, pallet height and how far the bag travels.

Do sugar bags need a PE inner liner?

Not always. For domestic deliveries in a dry climate, a BOPP laminated sack alone gives enough moisture protection. Add a PE inner liner when the sugar will sit in a humid warehouse, travel in a container for several weeks, or be packed as fine caster sugar that cakes quickly.

How many printing colours can the sack carry?

Our rotogravure line prints up to ten colours on the BOPP film, which is enough for photographic artwork, brand colour matching and mandatory labelling in the same pass. Tight registration keeps small text legible on the shelf and on the pallet.

Can you supply food-grade documentation?

Yes. Food-grade certification is available for the materials we use in contact with sugar, and we can provide the documentation your quality team needs before a first order. Share your market and the standard you work to, and we will confirm what applies to your specification.
